Birth Doulas in Edmonton and Surrounding Areas
Our certified birth doulas are available to support you on your birth journey in Edmonton and surrounding areas, in person or virtually. Our in-person doula services support all hospital births with physicians, birth centres, and planned home births with midwives. They are available in English and French when availability permits.
Our birth doula services include:

-
Complimentary Consultation: We will meet to determine whether our services are right for you. This can take place at any time during your pregnancy.
-
Three More Prenatal Meetings: Once you hire us, we will meet with you three times before the birth:
-
First Meeting: Your assigned certified doula will meet with you in person to discuss your philosophy and expectations regarding labour and birth, as well as their general role. Together, we will prepare your birth preferences, which include choices regarding birthing location, atmosphere, support people, physiological and medical birthing options, photos (or not), positions for labour, and preparations for postpartum. At this time, the contract will be signed.
-
Second Meeting: Suzanne (CD/BDT) will meet with you virtually approximately 4-5 weeks before your due date. She will show you how to Birth Wisely. You will learn the difference between prelabour, prodromal, and early labour. You will learn how to get a head start and shave hours off your labour. You will learn about the hormones of labour and the importance of rest. Together, you will review what will happen during your birth experience and your doula's role within it. You will know when to use comfort measures, how to optimize fetal positioning, when to time contractions (and when not to!), and when to contact your assigned birth doula.
-
Third Meeting: Your assigned certified birth doula will meet with you in person, in the comfort of your home, approximately 3-4 weeks before your due date.
-
This will be hands-on learning of natural comfort measures and positions that will get the baby into the best position for birth. This will help shorten your labour and minimize the chance of cesarean section surgery. Birth partners are shown how they can be as involved as they wish to make the birth experience positive and empowering for both of you.
-
Continuous Support During Your Labour and Birth: Your assigned birth doula or colleague will join you in person when you need extra support towards the end of early labour and as you enter active labour; this can be in your home and/or your planned birth location. Until they join you in person, you will receive support via text and/or phone calls. We offer a calm presence and reassurance for you and your birthing team. We provide comfort measures such as an extra practical hand and professional information at all times, including advocacy and empowerment, which is helpful in hospital settings with multiple patients for staff to attend. We specialize in information and birthing positions that help minimize the cascade of interventions in birth.
-
-
Postpartum Support: We are available to review your birthing experience in your home, assist you further with feeding your little one, and answer any other questions you may have.
-
Photographs And/Or a Timeline of Your Birth: We provide you with a brief account of your labour and birth.
-
24-hour On-call Support Throughout Your Pre-natal and Postpartum Experience: We are available for questions any time of day, which can make all the difference.
